Fripp Design and Research - Suppliers of Specialist Manufacturing Support in the Yorkshire and Humber Region

Fripp Design and Research is pleased to announce we are suppliers of Manufacturing Support, through the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) for SME businesses operating in the Yorkshire and Humber Region.

What Is MAS?

The BIS Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) has been a huge success since its launch in 2002. MAS now plays a vital role in helping UK manufacturers to share knowledge, improve productivity and achieve success in an increasing competitive global economy.

The Yorkshire and Humber MAS is the best performing MAS in the country; delivering £170m of additional gross value added in manufacturing support to date.

The manufacturing support service is managed in the region by YFM Business Development and is jointly funded by Yorkshire Forward (your regional development agency) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

How MAS can help?

UK manufacturing is changing rapidly.  In the current economic climate manufacturing input costs are fluctuating wildly (Oil/Raw materials etc) and the world economic climate is facing challenging times. Generating one sixth of the UK’s overall wealth, two thirds of its exports and 3 million jobs, manufacturing plays an absolutely vital role in the UK economy.

The MAS offer addresses the needs of manufacturers through practical advice and guidance for manufacturing support. The service is delivered by experienced manufacturing specialists and draws upon a network of world-class associates (such as Fripp Design and Research).

Why Engage Fripp Design and Research For Manufacturing Advice and Support?

What is a Focused Manufacturing Review?

What is the benefit of a Focused Manufacturing Review?

 - Access to high level expertise and knowledge residing in universities and manufacturing and technology centres (such as Fripp Design and Research) which can be difficult to track down in normal circumstances.

What is the Process?

Depending on the nature of the review, it may involve a visit to your company, be conducted off-site or involve a combination of both.

Takes up to 8 hours to complete

Carried out by one of our approved manufacturing specialists who has the expertise to address the specific research issue.

There are many ways in which the Focussed Manufacturing Review can be used.  Examples of how MAS clients have used it in the past include:

 - Examining the potential to reduce waste and energy costs
 - Identifying what is needed to allow existing thread rolling machines to roll tougher and harder alloys
 - Identifying the material components and specifications of a dual layer foam/fabric compound skin composite
 - Assessing the potential for diverting the wood waste produced during manufacture to power a heat/power installation
 - Evaluating the refrigeration distribution system with a view to reducing losses and improving system efficiency
 - Identifying if it is feasible to measure the thickness of the anodised layer on a component.
 - Assessing the feasibility of punching square holes in polycarbonate mouldings.

A full written report is provided to you when the review is complete.

What is the Cost of a Focused Manufacturing Review?

100% funded by MAS.

In the Yorkshire and Humber region MAS is administered by Yorkshire and Humber MAS. Yorkshire and Humber MAS is your first point of contact.
